Remarks on Transatlantic Relations
The relationship between the EU and the US has had a long and difficult history from the beginning. For example, Austria took 62 years to establish diplomatic contacts with the US in 1838. On the other hand, there are examples of great generosity and valued humanity like, after WW2, the Marshall plan and the founding of NATO, which still guarantees our freedom. We need to wake up now to new realities and invest more in our own defence. Not only militarily but also in the area of the social media. We have to strengthen our European and transatlantic bonds more than ever.
