The (social) web enables any user to become a potential publisher; the traditional gatekeepers have lost much of their reach and relevance. People often talk nowadays about the fragmentation of society. Whether this trend marks the end of democracy or just the start of a different kind of democracy is too little debated, or in terms that are too alarmist.
